Covington Catholic won its first boys’ state basketball title by beating Scott County 59-51 in overtime in the finals of the 97th Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Sweet Sixteen in Rupp Arena on Sunday afternoon.

The Colonels overcame a nine-minute scoring drought in the first half when they fell behind by 12 points.

CovCath was down 47-43 with 90 seconds left in regulation, but tied it on Nick Ruthsatz’s four free throws.

The Colonels fell behind early in overtime but finished the game with a 10-0 run.
