A new study found that people feel more compassion and empathy when they see a dog in pain than a person in pain.

Another study asked people what they would do if they saw an out-of-control bus about to hit their dog and a foreign tourist -- would they save the dog or foreigner?

Forty percent of people said they would save their dog instead of the person. Women chose the dog 46% of the time.
