In Spain, two men were busted for trying to get big insurance settlements by sawing off their own hands.

The two cases were unconnected, but both had similar plans.

One of the men used a chainsaw to chop off one of his hands, claiming he lost it in a car accident. He was looking at a $3.1 million settlement until investigators found the cut was too clean for a car crash.

The other man cut off his entire lower arm with a circular saw, claiming it was a sawing accident. His settlement was potentially $775,000, but was also busted after an investigation.

Both men are facing criminal charges.
