WTF.  OK so I went off on how great they were only to find out that although Anthony did sing, they didnt play? Refresh you memory w/this video and then take the poll below.

After reading FLEA'S statement.....(see below) ...HE SAID they couldnt.

The RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS didn't have their instruments plugged in during the Super Bowl halftime show . . in a post on the band's website, FLEA admits that the NFL wouldn't let them play their instruments live, but ANTHONY KIEDIS' vocals WERE legit.

FLEA says, quote, "I understand the NFL's stance on this, given they only have a few minutes to set up the stage . . . "There [are] a zillion things that could go wrong and ruin the sound for the folks watching. There was not any room for argument on this, the NFL does not want to risk their show being botched by bad sound, period." He said the band is usually against this sort of thing . . . but after a lot of consideration, they decided to go ahead with it, for the surreal, "once in a lifetime" opportunity to perform at the Super Bowl. He also said they recorded the music earlier that day, specifically for the Super Bowl. (Here's the full statement from flea )

WHICH LEADS US TO THE it ever ok to lip sync or pretend play? Should the audience be disappointed?

1. They still stole the show.

2. They still energized the audience (not easy at the SB)

3. They did come off perfect....

When Beyonce sang for the Prez, and the public found out it was lip synced...ppl went NUTS on her...called  her a sham, MILLI jr, POSER etc...but even with the lip sync, she still recorded it and sang it, it was still her talent and performance whether it was live or not. I could not tell it was synced.

Poll: PEPPER-GATE: was it ok for the Chili Peps to pretend play at the Superbowl?
