Shannon Tweed Simmons Gives Update On Gene's Bout With Kidney Stones

Gene Simmons has at least one more trip to the hospital in his future in order to resolve his kidney stone issue that caused KISS to postpone the final few dates of its North American tour.

The bassist's wife, Shannon Tweed Simmons, confirmed in social media posts that Gene is indeed battling "large kidney stones." She clarified that the procedure he underwent this week to have a stent installed in his urethra was the latest in a series of "non-invasive procedures" (Gene might disagree with that classification) designed to help the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer pass the painful stones.

"Well, now that the cat's out of the bag, this is Gene's second of three procedures to remove these large kidney stones so he can move on with Rockin' & Rollin' and, and by the way Happy Anniversary," Shannon wrote in an Instagram post, that revealed a medical image of her husband's bladder.

Later the same day, the model snapped a photo of a crestfallen Gene seated in a wheelchair at the hospital, joking that he was "stealing socks."

TMZ reported earlier this week that the stent is due to be removed next week, hopefully, after Simmons passes the stones. If he doesn't, he'll likely need surgery.

This isn't Gene's first bout with kidney stones. After passing kidney stones in 2009, Gene auctioned off the medical waste in one of the more bizarre online auctions in history. The tiny particles ended up fetching $15,000, which he donated to charity.

After pushing back the last few North American tour dates to next year, Simmons will have several weeks to recover before the ninth annual Kiss Kruise later this month. Kiss then has tour dates booked in Australia, New Zealand and Japan.
