Green Day has canceled tour plans due to rising concerns regarding the coronavirus outbreak.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers delivered the unfortunate news on social media, announcing that their upcoming shows in Asia have been postponed. âWe have unfortunately made the difficult decision to postpone our upcoming shows in Asia due to the health + travel concerns with coronavirus,â the band shared in a statement. âWe know it sucks, as we were looking forward to seeing you all, but hold on to your tickets weâll be announcing the new dates very soon.â
Green Day was expected to launch their tour at Singapore Indoor Stadium on March 8 before traveling to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, and elsewhere. They arenât alone in their decision, either.
Earlier this week, K-pop superstars BTS pulled out of several upcoming concert dates in Korea due to health and travel concerns in the wake of the pandemic. âIt is unavoidable that the concert must be canceled without further delay. Please understand that this decision was made after extensive and careful consideration,â reads a statement from a Korean news outlet, translated via Variety.
The boy band was expected to launch their âMap of the Soulâ world tour at their hometown venue, Seoul's Olympic Stadium, for four dates in April â not anymore. (BTS' tour will proceed in California on April 25 and 26.)
For those unaware, the coronavirus (COVID-19) has infected more than 80,000 people and claimed over 2,700 lives as of yet. Little is known about the new virus but Mayo Clinic insists the contagious disease spreads from person to person, supposedly by ârespiratory dropletsâ â through sneezing or coughs. The wide-spreading virus originated in Wuhan, China, and has reportedly made its way to more than 40 countries.
