On this episode of Whine Down, Jana Kramer and Mike Caussin talk about the difficulties of therapy during quarantine â Mike even stormed out of a session recently â and give some advice to a listener who canât access couples therapy at all right now. They also chat with Kate Flannery, who Mike loves because heâs âthe biggest Office fan who ever lived,â and who Jana loves because of her performance on Dancing With The Stars: âYou made me happy every time you danced,â she enthuses. Kate recalls some great Meredith moments on The Office, talks about the best acting advice she ever got, and shows Mike her Dundie Award. âThat made my heart warm!â he exclaims.
While filming the first season of The Office, Kate actually kept her waitressing job, unsure if the show would carry on; she got her weekday shifts covered and worked her Sunday brunch, she says. Then a customer said to her, âHey, arenât you lactose intolerant?â She replied, âYeah, and thanks for not bringing up my hysterectomy!â The same year they started airing the show, 40-Year-Old Virgin came out and Steve Carrellâs star was on the rise. âWe thought âooh, this is gonna be big,ââ she remembers. Her parents werenât quite convinced; she says they would watch an episode and then call her and complain that she didnât have many lines. But that never bothered her. âA lot of actors like to count linesâŚ.but I realized thereâs this whole chess game going on...donât mess it up by being an actor with a complaint!âÂ
She recounts some of her favorite scenes, including âMichaelâs Last Dundiesâ because it was the âfirst and only time you got to see Meredithâs house,â she laughs. She loves that âthey never gave up on the âless is moreâ thing.â Mike wants to know how she managed to keep a straight face during scenes, and she admits it was pretty hard to do. But when your co-stars are being so funny, you donât want to ruin the take by laughing, she points out; âYouâre part of the funny if you can keep it together.â And does she ever get sick of talking about the show, since it has such a cult following? Mike asks. Not at all, she replies: âIt was such a great experienceâŚ.it was hysterical, it was so smart. Iâm just so proud of it.â Hear more great stuff from Kate Flanneryâs career, what sheâs up to now, and Jana and Mikeâs best advice for marital harmony in close quarters, on this episode of Whine Down.
